Siklós-Máriagyűd (+20 Km) ENG

Siklós-Máriagyód offers visitors many fascinating attractions. One of the most important attractions is the Máriagyűd Basilica, one of the most important and most popular pilgrimage sites in Hungary. The baroque-style, two-towered Roman Catholic church was built in the 18th century. It was built by Franciscan monks in the 19th century, and in 2008 the Pope granted it the rank of basilica minor. The predecessor of the church was founded in the Árpád era, and many Marian apparitions and miracles are connected to it (Siklós) (Travel Tips).
The Csodabogyó Tanösvény is another popular location, which starts from the Máriagyód Church and leads to the hut below the peak of Tenkes Mountain. This nature trail offers hikers an ideal opportunity to discover the special flora and fauna of the area (Home).

The Siklós Castle is also a prominent attraction in the area, which awaits visitors with numerous exhibitions, including Renaissance furniture, medieval weapons and military history collections. The castle also houses the famous Captain Tenkes panopticon, which presents the characters of the popular Hungarian film series (Csodahelyek.hu).

In Máriagyód, it is also worth visiting the open-air mass and Calvary, which is located on the hill behind the church. Other points of interest in the area include the local Szentkút and the beautiful row of linden trees (Hiking tips).
